How to start a build thread

A build thread is a record, not an announcement. The ones people still read years later have a few things in common.

Open with the rig and the goal. Year, make, model, and what you are building toward — a weekend trail rig, an overland setup, a daily that has to survive winter. The goal is what makes the rest of the decisions legible.

Keep it in one thread. Reply to your own thread as the build goes rather than starting a new one for each stage. The value is in the sequence.

Say what it cost, if you are willing. Not to justify it. Because the next person planning the same build has no way to price it otherwise.

Photos of the work, not just the result. Under the truck, mid-install, the bracket that had to be redone. That is the part nobody else posts.

Name the shop if a shop did the work — good or bad, said plainly. If they are in the directory, link the listing.

Post yours as a new topic in this category.
